Process and Express Emotion

Process and Express Emotions

Imagine a world where kids can eat cookies for breakfast, or one that’s free of frightening spiders! The magic of play gives kids the power to eliminate things from their pretend scenarios that frighten them, and they can safely act out what is otherwise forbidden.

It’s children's way of creating imaginary worlds, characters and plots that match their emotional state, helping them learn to express and regulate their feelings. Through play, kids learn to cope with their emotions as they act out fear, frustration, anger and aggression in a situation they control. It’s also a chance for them to practice empathy and understanding.

Plus, by giving kids a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, play can help build kids’ confidence and self-perception.

Giving kids an emotional outlet — that’s the genius of play!

Studies show that make-believe games help kids learn to
SELF-REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS
